Vegan vitamin D3 to support you through the darker months
Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, teeth and muscle function. Your skin makes it from sunlight, but in the UK the sun isn't strong enough between October and March, and it's difficult to get enough from food alone. Our vegan vitamin D3, made from algae, gives you a simple daily way to top up.
What vitamin D3 does
- Bones, teeth and muscles: contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, teeth and muscle function.
- Immune system: contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
- Calcium and phosphorus: contributes to the normal absorption and use of calcium and phosphorus, and to normal blood calcium levels.
- Vegan-friendly: made from algae, with no animal-derived ingredients.
Who might want to take it
UK government advice is that everyone should consider a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms (400 IU) of vitamin D during autumn and winter. Some people are advised to take one all year round, including people who spend very little time outdoors, who cover most of their skin when they're outside, or who have darker skin. If you're not sure which applies to you, speak to your GP or pharmacist. Wondering if you might be low? Read our guide to the signs of vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D3 FAQs
Do I need vitamin D3 in the summer?
From around late March or early April to the end of September, most people can make the vitamin D they need from sunlight. Some groups are advised to supplement all year round, so check the "Who might want to take it" section above or ask your GP or pharmacist.
Can I get enough vitamin D from food?
A few foods contain vitamin D, such as oily fish, egg yolks and fortified products, but it's difficult to get enough from food alone, particularly in the winter months. Our guide to vitamin D foods for vegans has ideas for plant-based diets.
Is this vitamin D3 suitable for vegans?
Yes. It's made from algae and contains no animal-derived ingredients.
How much vitamin D is too much?
Adults shouldn't take more than 100 micrograms (4,000 IU) of vitamin D a day. Always follow the dose on the label, and speak to your GP or pharmacist before combining this with other vitamin D products or if you take regular medication.
